We are absolutely thrilled for another year of children and youth life to begin at St. Paul’s! Opportunities abound for formation, service, community, and fun, and now is the time to be a part of it!
In our Sunday School program at St. Paul’s, we welcome children from pre-school to sixth grade during our education hour from 9:45am-10:30am. Our goal is not to give your child all of the answers. Instead, we share stories that our faith has shared for generations. We use sand, wooden figures, felt, and other beautiful materials. Then, we take time to wonder and respond through art, games, and discussion. Our Sunday School teachers create a welcoming, loving and fun environment where children can be their full selves – wiggles, questions, stories, and ideas! Throughout the year, we gather for other events like Advent Wreath Making, the Christmas Pageant, a Children’s Good Friday Service and the always famous Easter Egg Hunt. We have a team of over 35 teens and adults who will help with teaching this year. If you have questions or would like to join the team, feel free to reach out to Alexis Sheehan at [email protected] or (412) 531-7153×13.
The St. Paul’s youth journey begins with Confirmation class, which kicks off in 7th grade and continues through 8th grade, with youth being confirmed in the fall of their 9th grade year. Throughout the year, Confirmation gathers Sunday evenings from 5pm-6:15pm, growing in community, exploring the foundations of our Christian and Episcopal faith, and adding the “yes” of our youth to the “yes” conferred upon them by God and their community at their baptism. High School Youth Group continues that faith journey for 9th-12th graders, as we explore what it means to live a life of faith in the midst of the beautiful chaos of high school. We gather Sunday evenings from 6:45pm-8pm, tackling big questions, learning and playing together, and growing closer in community along the way. Please reach out to Bob Melvin at [email protected] or (412) 531-7153×18 for any questions about Confirmation and the High School Youth program.
St. Paul’s also offers regular retreat experiences for our youth, with fall and spring Confirmation retreats, a winter high school retreat, and our annual summer mission trip to southern West Virginia. Retreats allow us to truly get away from the pace and stress of our everyday experiences and see what God is doing in us and in the world.
We can’t wait to see you all and get to know you better at our children and youth programming this year!
Peace,
Bob Melvin, Youth Minister and Director of 8:45 Music
