SUMMARY:Adult Mental Health First Aid Training
DESCRIPTION:in the Conference Room In response to our nation’s mental health crisis\, St. Paul’s is sponsoring the first of two Mental Health First Aid trainings. This groundbreaking skills-based course gives people the tools to identify\, understand and respond to someone who might be struggling with a mental health or substance use challenge — and connect them with appropriate support and resources when necessary.Unlike physical conditions\, symptoms of mental health and substance use problems can be difficult to detect. Friends and family members may find it hard to know when and how to step in. As a result\, those in need of mental health services often do not receive care until it is too late. Just as CPR helps even those without clinical training assist an individual having a heart attack\, Mental Health First Aid prepares participants to interact with a person experiencing a mental health crisis. The training will be taught by parishioner Anita Kinsley\, who is a certified Mental Health First Aid instructor. Training materials will be provided by St. Paul’s. Please bring a bag lunch. The deadline to register is Thursday\, April 4.For class registration\, or additional information\, contact Anita Kinsley akinsley55@gmail.com or 215-842-1678 A second course\, Youth Mental Health First Aid Training\, specifically addressing the needs of youth who may be experiencing mental health or substance use challenges\, will follow on Saturday May 18\, from 9am – 5pm. Please note these are two stand-alone classes\, and you may sign up for one or both of these classes.

SUMMARY:Adult Forum: Mental Health First Aid
DESCRIPTION:Most of us would know how to respond if someone were having a heart attack\, we might start CPR or call 911. For many of us\, it is a greater challenge when we observe someone having a panic attack or suspect a colleague might be abusing alcohol. Mental Health First Aid is an evidence-based practice that equips the everyday citizen with the tools and skills needed when someone is struggling with a behavioral health concern. Please join us on April 7\, 2024\, to learn more about this important subject and how you can help. This forum will be led by parishioner Anita Kinsley who is a certified Mental Health First Aid Instructor.

SUMMARY:Adult Forum: Highland Educational Project
DESCRIPTION:The Highland Educational Project (HEP) has been an outreach ministry of the Diocese of West Virginia for more than 70 years. It is located in Welch\, McDowell County\, in one of the most impoverished areas of the country. In the past HEP was the only full-time mission-based organization that was open to provide area residents with aid every day of the week. It offered a food pantry\, clothing\, help with utility bills\, and other provisions for county residents. After a time of revisioning\, restructuring and reimagining\, HEP has reopened with the goal of becoming an even more vital outreach ministry in McDowell County. Our focus is in three areas; hosting mission groups at the center and setting them up with projects in the community\, providing a free children’s literacy library\, and being a community and spiritual center for the area and visiting groups. The Rev. Paul Barker is the Director of HEP. https://www.wvdiocese.org/highland-educational-project-hep/

SUMMARY:Lenten Meditation in Motion
DESCRIPTION:Lent is a season for quietness and introspection\, and yet it can be so hard to fit these things in our schedules. Please join us in the St. Paul’s Undercroft on Sundays from 4:00-5:00pm for a Lenten Yoga and Meditation series. These classes will have around 30 minutes of movement\, and 20 minutes of guided reflection and meditation on scriptures and themes of Lent. The classes will be taught for all levels. Please bring a yoga\, exercise mat\, or towel to participate. At the end of the class you are welcome to stick around for a cup of tea. These candlelit classes will offer a container for reflection\, gentle movement\, and connection with others and we hope you will set this time apart for yourself this Lent. Sign up here.
